If you're a watch enthusiast, you've probably wondered: “How do people find the next great independent watchmaker before everyone else does?” It usually takes deep industry knowledge, the right network, and a bit of luck. Thanks to the Louis Vuitton Watch Prize for Independent Creatives, we now have an inside track to discovering some of the most exciting emerging talents in the watch world. The 20 semi-finalists for the 2025–2026 edition have just been announced, offering a glimpse into the future of independent horology.
The Prize That’s Elevating Independent Watchmaking
Founded by Jean Arnault, head of Louis Vuitton's watch division and a vocal supporter of independent watchmakers, the LV Watch Prize celebrates craftsmanship, creativity, and innovation. The inaugural winner, Raúl Pagès, captured attention with his Régulateur à Détente RP1 and made an immediate impact. Along with a generous financial award, Pagès received a personalized one-year mentorship at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. This mentorship focuses not only on watchmaking but also on business development, branding, and communication to help independent creators grow sustainably. Pagès has since followed up with the RP2, further solidifying his reputation as one of the most exciting talents in modern watchmaking.
A Closer Look at Standout Semi-Finalists

While the full list includes 20 names, a few standout entries are generating serious buzz:
Petermann Bédat – Seconde Morte
Known for their refined craftsmanship and roots in A. Lange & Söhne, Petermann Bédat returns with the Seconde Morte, a stunning piece featuring a deadbeat seconds complication and exceptional hand-finishing.
Kallinich Claeys – Central Seconds
Another Glashütte graduate duo, this is their debut piece and it blends modern minimalism with traditional German watchmaking. The Hong Kong Edition is particularly eye-catching.
Auffret Paris – Giverny “Blue Train”
Theo Auffret, known for the Tourbillon à Paris, presents the Giverny, a smaller, elegant watch with a closed dial and his signature charbonnage movement finishing. It reflects his refined and artistic sensibility.
Fam al-Hut & Mgraver – Rising Stars from China
With four semi-finalists hailing from China, including Fam al-Hut’s Möbius and Mgraver’s Ventrallis, it’s clear that Chinese independent watchmaking is on the rise. These brands are challenging outdated perceptions by offering innovative designs with serious mechanical depth.
Quiet Club – Fading Hours
Founded by Norifumi Seki, a former F.P. Journe Young Talent winner, Fading Hours stands out for its poetic design and unique alarm complication, which chimes against the rear of the dial like a gong. It’s a perfect blend of Japanese design and mechanical creativity.
J.N. Shapiro – Resurgence
Representing the United States, J.N. Shapiro’s Resurgence claims to be the first fully American-made watch since 1969. The watch is a statement piece that revives American horological pride through stunning guilloché dials and in-house movement work.
What This Means for Collectors
The LV Watch Prize isn’t just an award. It’s a celebration of independent voices in the world of watchmaking. For collectors, it offers a chance to discover and support watchmakers before they become widely known. These artisans are creating timepieces with soul, individuality, and extraordinary technical merit. A panel of experts, including Ben Clymer of Hodinkee, will evaluate the semi-finalists and select five finalists. The winner will be revealed during the official ceremony next year.
